• High Performance Computers (HPCs) and cloud computers are both computers located elsewhere that you can connect to and use for analysing data. 

  • HPCs are usually larger than cloud computers and can be used for running analyses that need lots of cores and memory. 

  • Cloud computers are usually smaller modular units, but these can be combined to scale up for larger analyses where required. 

  • You can access both HPCs and cloud computers via your own computer, at the command line interface (e.g. the Mac Terminal or Windows Terminal), and sometimes via a web page.
